An investment in our community - a project that will impact on the quality of life of families and the community as a whole - Tom Roper, Tauranga RDA Foundation Chairman
Our arena extension is a Tauranga RDA foundation project. This $700,000 extension project is an investment in our community. It will enable Tauranga Riding for Disabled to meet the increasing need for equestrian therapy in our community. This project will support our mission to reach more riders and contribute to enriching the lives and empowering those challenged by disability or who are at risk.
Currently we provide an average of 140 rides a week, however there is growing demand for the services and we currently have a wait list of up to 170 riders. We want to continue to meet the needs of the community and reduce the wait list, to do this we must expand.
The project is managed by Paul Chapman from Tierra Ltd, who was involved in the initial indoor arena build in 2012. The project will see; covering the outdoor arena: expansion of "all weather" riding spaces. Reception & Office block to enable staff to be closer to the area of activity and allow for growth. Provide facilities to enable growth of the education programmes with classroom spaces. Provide additional resources that will expand the facility and make it more user friendly for other community groups.
Manager Elisha Olds says “we are excited to be at this stage, the project looks to be complete by Term 1 2019, which will enable us to get more riders onto our programmes. We are continually evolving to meet needs and offer more, and we have big plans for 2019”.
